Serbia weather is characterized by marked regional variations as patterns change according to elevation, proximity to the Adriatic Sea and large river basins, as each respective areas exposure to the winds. Thus, the north part of the country experiences a continental climate, whereas a more Adriatic type of weather can be found in the south.
Winters in the north part of Serbia are characteristically cold and the summers hot and humid. The area however enjoys well distributed rainfall patterns.
The south parts of Serbia experiences with hot, dry summers and autumns and relatively cold winters, its inland regions receiving abundant snowfall.
Air masses northern and Western Europe shape Vojvodina’s typically continental climate, while south and South-west Serbia is under the influence of a distinctively Mediterranean type of weather. Encircled by mountains, Sandžak experiences rather harsh winter conditions.
Areas with an altitude of up to 300 m experience annual temperatures of 10.9 °C, the areas with an altitude of 300 m to 500 m have an average annual temperature of around 10.0 °C, and over 1000 m of altitude around 6.0 °C.
